Four Cabinetry Shopping Tips

Shopping around for new cabinetry, whether it be for your kitchen, bath, or any other room can be exciting and daunting all at the same time. It’s exciting because, well, new kitchen! And daunting because it’s an investment and many important decisions have to be made (oh, good thing we’re here!). On the surface, you might see cabinets, but once you get started, selections on the door style, type of construction, the finishes, and storage solutions are to be decided. It’s all a part of the territory of shopping for new cabinetry! Deciding to go forward with new cabinetry is no small feat, so it’s important that the right decisions are made. But don’t worry, we’re here to help! Check out some of our cabinetry shopping tips below!

Cabinetry Shopping Tip #1: Door Style

With many different types of door styles out there, it can quickly become overwhelming, but it’s important. The door style of your cabinetry is what determines the overall look of the space! The three broad style categories are traditional, modern, and transitional. Learn more about door styles here.

Our tip: We recommend narrowing down your specific style and go from there. Feeling traditional? Go with a raised panel door. Modern? Check out a slab door. Somewhere in-between traditional and modern? Check out the flat panel doors, like a shaker-style below, to get you started.

Cabinetry Shopping Tip #2: Construction

There are two different types of cabinet construction: framed and frameless (also called full-access). A framed cabinet will have a 1 ½” face frame while a frameless will not. They might look similar to the untrained eye, so knowing the differences will help you decide.  Learn more about cabinet construction here.

Our tip: When you decide what type of access you would like, then you’ll know which one is right for you. There is no right or wrong.

Cabinetry Shopping Tip #3: Finish

When deciding on your cabinet finish you might feel like a kid in a candy store, so many options to choose from! Finishes range anywhere from paint, stains, and slab surfaces- each having their own set of colors/finishes. Learn more about finishes here.

Our tip: New cabinets are an investment, so making sure you find the right finish is important! We recommend ordering samples of finishes you like, that way you can physically see what the finish will look like in your space.
